A winter mountain adventure just 8 minutes away - The Rax is one of the most popular winter destinations in Lower Austria. The Rax cable car takes you up to the mountain station at 1,545 metres above sea level in just eight minutes. Once at the top, an impressive winter landscape unfolds before you, with vast snowfields, magnificent views and well-marked hiking trails.
Right next to the mountain station is the Raxalm mountain inn, with its panoramic terrace and a stunning view down into the valley. This is also where your snowshoe adventure begins.

The Rax offers ideal conditions for snowshoers of all ages and fitness levels. Three marked routes lead across the wintry high plateau and offer varied walks ranging from 2 to 15 kilometres in length. Around four kilometres of the trails are specially signposted, making it easy to find your way.
All you need for the tour are warm, ankle-high walking boots and weatherproof winter clothing. Snowshoes and poles can be conveniently hired for a fee directly at the Raxalm mountain inn.
Guided snowshoe tours and a winter break in the mountains
If you’d like to explore the Rax with experienced guides, you can take part in guided snowshoe tours. The professional mountain guides provide valuable tips on the correct walking technique and ensure a safe experience in the great outdoors.
On selected winter weekends, there’s also the option to stay overnight right on the mountain and turn your day trip into a relaxing mini-break.
