Narrenturm Vienna – Experience the world’s largest collection of pathological anatomical specimens

The Narrenturm is one of Vienna’s most fascinating historic buildings and a unique monument to the history of medicine and nursing. The striking circular building was constructed in 1784 under Emperor Joseph II and was Europe’s first institution dedicated exclusively to people with mental illness.

Today, the listed tower houses around 45,000 pathological specimens – the largest collection of its kind in the world. Visitors can expect an extraordinary exhibition that can be explored independently and is fully accessible.

Please note: The exhibition contains human specimens and is recommended for visitors aged 14 and over. Photography and filming are not permitted in the collection.

From 2 January to 31 December 2026: Wednesday to Saturday, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm Exceptions: Closed on Friday, 25 December 2026
