For over 900 years, this unique place has shaped the history of Austria – founded in 1114 by Margrave Leopold III, the patron saint of lower Austria and Vienna. History and highlights at Klosterneuburg Abbey
This year's exhibition „Mind the Map! Concepts of the world in Transition!" (from May to November 2026), follows travelers and researchers on their journeys and sheds light on different world views that can be traced in the abbey's collections. The abbey's treasury contains valuable treasures from many centuries, the highlight: the holy crown of the country - the Austrian Archducal Hat. The Marble Hall with Daniel Gran's fresco and, at weekends and on public holidays, the Abbey Museum with the Babenberg family tree are sure to amaze visitors. Discover Klosterneuburg Abbey in all its facets - bookable guided tours: Two guided tours can be booked on site. Visit the famous Verdun Alter with the "Grand Abbey Tour". The tour covers everything from the founding of the abbey through the history of Emperor Charles VI’s unfinished palace project to the present day. The wine cellar tour with atmospheric light installations and wine tasting. From the vine to the press house down to the baroque wine cellar - stories are told about the long tradition of winegrowing at Austria's oldest wine estate.
